Duncan BenderFounding Client, In Memory
Duncan, passed away in November 2020 and this heartbreaking loss has been a difficult journey to healing as Duncan is the inspiration behind The Center. When he graduated from high school his family found no options in the community to continue learning and growing amongst his peers. Duncan was not alone in this need and although he is no longer with us his spirit and energy ignites our mission and we are proud to continue his legacy. |
FORMER TEAM MEMBERS
John schuppProgram Supervisor
I was introduced to special education through my mom who worked in Direct Care. Seeing the difference, she was making as an advocate for those with different abilities shaped my decision to pursue this career path. After receiving my associate degree from Three Rivers Community College in Connecticut I took a position as a job coach and supervisor at a day program. Over three years I was able to achieve my goal of helping our clients obtain jobs when we opened a thrift store in the community. When weather permits, I am an avid hiker, but when indoors I enjoy a good movie or playing video games. I moved to Texas in 2021 and found my home here at NTC. I love overseeing our program development, being a parent liaison, and driving 'little shorty' (our van) for our community outings. |
Jaiden owensProgram Coordinator & Care Coach
While at Northwest High school I was part of the Teaching and Coaching Pathway Program. The elementary teacher that I was assigned to, learned of my interest in special education and recommended I apply to The New Transitions Center. I have loved every minute of it! These amazing people have huge personalities and never fail to make me laugh while having a good time at work. I really enjoy coming to work every day which is something a lot of people can't say. I enjoy a good book alongside a bowl of pistachio ice cream and Oreo cookies. I am a native Texan who is attending Tarrant County College working towards my undergrad in special education. I am constantly on the move and have a hard time holding still. This works well for our team since I am over the facility, donor appreciation program, and work in direct care (all of which require a lot of energy). |
